I wonder if you may have seen that recent special featuring Al Roker on the topic of pampered pets? It was not just interesting but also quite amazing to see the extent to which people actually do pamper their pets.
We heard of forty five thousand dollars for a real pair of diamond earrings and a Chihuahua enjoying a limo service! This kind of over abundant pampering, is quite mind boggling, and has a direct bearing on my article today.
A pitbull is a Dog – He is not a Human Being
There are basics that pertain to a pitbull:
- pitbulls are animals
- pitbulls are also dogs
- They are also a particular type or breed of dog
- Additionally they are commonly the companions of man
As I said, these are non negotiable and not even a ride in a limousine or a forty five thousand dollar pair of diamonds can make the dog a better behaved animal.
[I don’t say they may not look fabulous while they are actually piddling on your new shoes.]
Giving your pitbull a good training commences from understanding these four foundation facts above.
Tap in to the natural laws that govern your pitbull and that he instinctively understands – you can then easily train him to do almost anything you want.
Being aware of the laws of nature that your dog is governed by will assist you to understand him better and naturally be a plus factor at the time of training.
How do you do this? It is quite simple really…..
Just treat him like a dog. He cannot be expected to behave like a human being, because he is a dog. In order that he may thrive and do well, dog rules need to be set to mark his boundaries.
The bio natural doggy laws he instinctively follows are written in to his DNA and however many foo-foo luxuries he may be pampered with can never change or replace their doggy impulses.
A pitbull has been bred and is born to take on big time challenges like drive prey as in chasing down a hog or bull; and enjoy action like fetching and tugging.
The pitbull is also not a lap dog by any means. Activities or jobs that would challenge him both mentally and physically are what a pitbull thrives on.
They should be given affection when they actually earned it, and they will certainly earn your affection when they themselves are mentally and physically fulfilled. It is at this point that you may spoil them, but not a moment before.
When you have grasped the concept that working with your dog’s natural instincts and providing him with what he really needs rather than what makes you comfortable to give him, you will begin to observe drastic changes in his behaviour.
Summary
The best solution to behavioural problems and training hiccups is to give your pitbull affection, mental stimulation and exercise. He will be transformed into a well mannered companion to be proud of.
