64 252x300 Tips for Training Your pitbull Stop Excessive BarkingHere are five handy tips to put a stop to your pitbull barking excessively and teach them to be quiet. While barking in itself is normal behaviour for a dog, non-stop barking is just plain annoying.

Stop the Non Stop Barking using Five Ways

A useful saying to remember is: ‘Tired pitbulls are Good pitbulls’. So make sure they get plenty of exercise. Often the irritating barking you hear at odd hours of night could be a reason for you to check how much exercise you are giving the dog. Their way of letting off steam when they are bored could be the excessive barking. A daily routine of solid exercise time is most advisable.

pitbulls are an attention freak. Excessive barking could also be a way to gain your attention. A little praising and attention might be the solution. Go up to them and praise them just a little and make them understand that you have heard them.

Get yourself a Doggy Rattle of your own. Rattles really rattle a dog. They hate it. It’s like scratching your nails over a blackboard to them. You can make your rattle by filling a soda can with rocks or a bottle with coins. Shake it every time the dog barks incessantly. When he stops and you have his attention you can command them to lie down and be quiet. Speak in a regular tone of voice and do not scold.

A Surprise – Squirt Bottle: Firmly but not in a scolding tone, say ‘enough’ to the pitbull when he starts barking so he knows you want him to stop. Then squirt him once out of the squirt bottle.  After a few times, he will associate the word ‘enough’ with the squirt of water. After they have got skirted several times over, the word alone will be sufficient to stop their barking.

If they don’t obey you when you ask them to stop, just walk off. This is a good method that works with attention seeking dogs. They will usually get quiet to come looking for you to see where you are walking off to.

Treats from the Mail Man: If your dog is one of those animals who go mad when they see the postman, ask the mail man to bring along a treat to give him. That will turn the mail man in to his friend and no longer an enemy or threat.

Note: A poodle makes a great guard dog.

In Summary
A common error in people who are training their pitbull is that they don’t understand when the time is right to stop one thing and get on to another.

A couple of weeks are usually more than enough to realise if the training is having effect. If after this time period you find you are not getting the results you want, go on to try another tip.
