Raising PitBull Puppies Right

Published on Thursday, December 10, 2009 by admin

pitbull puppyHave you wondered when you see for instance a country dog obeying without question its master who is not using a special collar or leash, why such owners seem to own a ‘magic touch’?
Or is it that those dogs are just smarter?
The secret lies in how you raise your puppies….

What About you’re Life?
Here is the typical day of a brand new pitbull puppy owner:

1 When they awake they are greeted by dog dirt.
2 They desperately attempt to house train but the puppy is three months old and continues to use the sofa or kitchen.

3 The puppy chews through leash, runs away. They spend all day trying to catch the dog, and then giving it a lecture for bad behaviour.

4 The puppy is secured in a safe room for the night and chews up everything in sight.
5 It feels like they have brought home a lion cub by mistake rather than a Pit Bull Terrier.

Does this sound familiar?

The secret some owners have is that their pitbulls respect them. I repeat: respect.
It is not about better training or being more knowledgeable on training methods.

I don’t even use say the word ‘love’. It is respect that causes the unleashed animal to respond to simple whistles or calls from 200 yards away.

Whilst the typical Pit Bull puppy owner struggles to establish control, these owners have neither put their dogs on a leash nor asked them to sit.

The lifestyle you maintain establishes the relationship between your puppy and you. One thing is necessary.

Rules that may help

pitbull dog pitbullsOne: Keep under supervision. Many people say they let their pup out in the night and find that it dirties on the floor anyway. Your pup should be in a wire covered kennel for the night, taken outside on a leash to potty, and returned to the kennel during unsupervised times.

Two: Keep him on a 20 ft long cotton leash when he is out of the kennel to ingrain the idea that you are in control at all times.

The establishing of rules does away with the majority of issues faced by Pit Bull owners

Three: without regular feeding times potty training is harder. Fix three times and put down a bowl for the pup. If he doesn’t eat within twenty minutes take it away and only put it back at the next fixed time.

Four: Love is the last requirement always.

Necessities:
Water
Shelter
Food
Exercise
Attention [should be last]

If their needs are met in order of priority, the puppy will learn to respect you. Pit Bulls love attention. Too much of it and less of other things makes ill mannered dogs.

These are just four rules of many more good ones.

While some may feel these are harsh and restrictive. If these rules save your dog from being ill mannered and uncontrollable are they not good?

You should establish yourself as master and enforce your rules with justice. This will result in your dog respecting you and loving you too.
